HARRIMAN CITY COUNCIL MEETING AND WORKSHOP HIGHLIGHTS

The Harriman City Council met in regular session on Tuesday night, followed by a workshop. During the meeting, the council approved a rezoning request by a landowner on Roane State Highway within the Harriman City limits near the Pinnacle Point shopping center for a rezoning request for a commercial zone.
The council also approved allowing the Michael Dunn Center to lease the area where a new inclusive playground is to be built at The Recreation Center. A grant fund could continue to go through and provide the resources and funds for the new inclusive playground that was announced last fall to be built there.
The city agreed to lease the property for the playground for $1 a year so the inclusive playground can continue to be built there, which would help children with disabilities.
WORKSHOP:
Following the Harriman city council regular session, which only lasted around 12 minutes, the council moved into their work session and were addressed by two members of the Kimberly Horn agency, which does engineering and research work for municipalities across the state, helping them in certain programs they wish to have assistance with.
Last night, the two were there to present the council their findings on a study for traffic safety in the area of Harriman, where accidents have occurred and safety measures need to be implemented.
No surprise, the Roane State Highway/ Pine Ridge Road intersection was the key focus that needs improvements as the study showed that many residents who went online to provide information to Kimberly Horn in their research stated that the area at that intersection is a key focus on improving safety.
The group had a survey conducted, reaching out to Harriman residents, and out of 2300 who went to the web page, 157 completed the survey and wanted to see improvements to that intersection.
Other intersections in Harriman are also being reviewed as the city wants to do more to improve safety for motorists within the city.
