Harvey Douglas Martin, Age 79

Harvey Douglas Martin, age 79, was born June 28, 1944 to Kenneth Douglas Martin and Emma Luella Farris Martin in Chestnut Hill, TN. He died in Osceola, Arkansas, June 18, 2024. As a child, he was energetic, rambunctious, and mischievous, all rolled into one.

As an adult, he was an exceptional carpenter. He worked with his hands to create some of the most lovely cabinets, doors, novelties, and homes. With his talents and great work ethic combined, he supported his family and himself throughout his whole life.

In his spare time, he loved being on Center Hill Lake (or any lake, really), or in the woods. Fishing and hunting was not just a hobby for him, but a part of who he was as a person. He raised his children to know the art of those things as well. Making memories to last a lifetime.

Surrounded with the sounds of light splashes and natures nightlife, a warm breeze, a stable boat, wet hands from going through the motions of setting out or pulling in jugs, AND sitting with those he loved was his “Heaven on Earth”.

He leaves behind one son, Frank Douglas Martin of Crossville, TN; two daughters, Shelly Martin of Sparta, TN and Denise Martin (Greg) of Crossville; the love of his life Brenda Nash of Sparta, TN. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren- Micheal Martin, Samantha Kirby, Brent Dillon, Natisha Reed, Shellene Boggs, Douglas Clouse, Allie Young, Monica Young, Hunter and Abigail Martin; and ten great grandchildren. Harvey also leaves behind seven siblings- Billie Swearengen, Virginia Wilson, Kenneth Martin (Rita), Claude Martin (Talana), Linda Simmons, Charles Martin (Myra), and Lillian Trivett (Doug).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Emma Martin, sister, Mary Spencer, and infant brother, Robert Louis Martin. Harvey was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield Glade, TN and attended Crab Orchard Christian Church before the progression of his illness.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 29 at Crab Orchard Christian Church. Visitation is from 10:00-2:00 with a service at 2:00. Flowers are welcome and/or donations can be made in Harvey’s memory to Crab Orchard Christian Church’s Building Fund.
