HEAVY CONGESTION ON SPARTA HIGHWAY

In Cumberland County, State Route 1 (SR-1), AKA Sparta Highway, is experiencing significant traffic congestion due to ongoing resurfacing and bridge replacement projects.
The resurfacing work, spanning from near Pomona Road to the SR-24 (US-70 N. West Ave. N.) intersection, involves temporary lane closures on weekdays, with flaggers and signs in place to manage traffic. This project, which began recently, is expected to conclude by July 31, 2025.
Simultaneously, bridge replacement construction over the Obed River, between River Lane and SR-24, has led to additional weekday lane closures. Although SR-1 has reopened, construction crews are working off the roadway to install utilities, with occasional flagging required to move equipment across the road. This bridge work is slated for completion by June 30, 2025.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution in these work zones due to construction equipment and potential delays.
