HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICER INVOLVED IN HEAD-ON VEHICLE CRASH IN MORGAN COUNTY

The Tennessee Highway Patrol and medics responded just after 7 p.m. yesterday to a vehicle crash on Highway 62 in Morgan County.

Troopers arrived and learned one of the drivers was one of their own.

The report states a 2022 Ram pickup driven by 33-year-old Anthony W. Elliot was traveling east on Highway 62 near Corbin Hill Road when he failed to maintain his lane of travel.

Elliot crossed the center line and hit head-on with an oncoming 2020 Ford Explorer operated by 58-year-old Stacey Heatherly.

Heatherly is a captain with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Both drivers were taken to an area trauma center for treatment of injuries.

An update on the condition of Elliot was not available.

Heatherly was released from the hospital early this morning. She is recovering at home from several injuries sustained in the impact.

Troopers say charges are pending against Elliot.
