INJURIES REPORTED IN THREE VEHICLE CRASH ON I-40 IN PUTNAM COUNTY

A multi-vehicle crash yesterday afternoon on I-40 in Putnam County resulted in the eastbound lanes being closed for at least two hours.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a 2013 Nissan Rogue driven by 33-year-old Mateo Xo Pop, a 2016 Kia Soul operated by 62-year-old Cynthia H. Childress, and a 2013 GMC Sierra driven by 63-year-old Mollie Maxine Taylor were traveling east in the right lane at the 294-mile marker.

The accident report states the GMC slowed down abruptly for heavy traffic and was rear-ended by the Nissan. The Kia then struck the Nissan.

Childress and a passenger in her vehicle, 72-year-old Lenord Childress, were the only injuries sustained in the accident.

The other two drivers were not hurt.

Troopers issued citations to Pop for improperly following and driving with no license.
