INTERSTATE CONSTRUCTION TO BE SUSPENDED FOR EASTER WEEKEND
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is suspending all interstate construction work that requires lane closures over the upcoming Easter holiday weekend to accommodate increased travel. The pause will begin on Thursday, April 2, at 6:00 p.m. and continue through Monday, April 6, at 6:00 a.m. This measure aims to maximize roadway capacity and improve traffic flow for motorists traveling across the state.
Although active lane-closure work will stop during this period, some long-term lane closures on ongoing construction projects will remain in place. Workers may still be present in construction zones, and reduced speed limits will continue to be enforced. TDOT is urging drivers to slow down in work zones, pay close attention to temporary roadway conditions, and move over for HELP Units and other first responders assisting motorists.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead by checking TDOT SmartWay for real-time information, use hands-free devices for phones, and follow the “move over and slow down” rule for vehicles with flashing lights to help keep both travelers and road workers safe.
