INVESTIGATORS RETURN TO KNOX COUNTY HOME THAT MAY HAVE CONNECTION TO ROANE COUNTY CHILD ABUSE CASE

Knox County investigators went back to a residence this morning (Thursday, May 28, 2020) that may have a connection to a Roane County couple charged with abuse of a corpse and multiple counts of child abuse.

Neighbors said yesterday they watched Knox County deputies and the coroner at the home on Cedarbreeze Road in Halls that property assessor officials said belongs to Michael Anthony Gray, Jr. He is the son of 63-year-old Michael Anthony Gray Sr. and 60-year-old Shirley Gray. The couple is charged in the death of their young daughter, who died after reportedly being kept confined to a basement for months and was fed only bread and water. Michael Gray Sr. and his wife lived at the home in Halls a few years ago.

Neighbors said they observed Knox County officers place something in the back of the coroner’s vehicle after they were digging in the backyard. It is not confirmed at this time what was placed in the coroner’s vehicle.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it has an active investigation but would not give further details.
