Hood – JANICE KAY PELFREY, age 73, of Crossville, TN passed away May 24, 2025. She was born October 18, 1951, in West Virginia the daughter of James C. and Margaret J. Newberry Dick. She retired after more than 20 years from the North Ridgeville, OH City School District and after moving to Crossville in 1989, she later retired from Delbar Products after 18 years. Janice loved making people laugh and was always the life of the party. Her family and friends affectionally referred to her as “Goob”. She enjoyed traveling, especially to casinos with her girls. She always loved playing cards, always up for a good game of poker. She also liked going to yard sales with her grandson. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed by them all. Janice was also a member of Bible Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters- Michelle Allen and her husband Robert of North Ridgeville, OH, Melissa Brown and her husband Jerry of Crossville, TN, Velma Barnette and her husband David also of Crossville, and Heather Hall and her husband Matt of North Ridgeville, OH, brother- Ricky Dick and his wife Margaret of Crossville, TN, sister- Barbara Serviss and her husband Steve of Crossville, TN, grandchildren- Stephanie, Tyler “TJ”, Brittany, Nichole, Steven, Jon, Donnie, JR, Destiney, Kendria, Tyler, Jasmine, Adrianna, Dylan, Jordan, Morgan, and Logan and twenty one great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband- Arvil “Buddy” Pelfrey, daughter- Wendy Pelfrey Croskey, grandson- Carlos Barnette, brothers- Larry Phillips, Calvin Dick, Jackie Dick and Jimmy Dick and sisters- Joyce Loder, Jean Ann Marhefka and Teresa O’Dell.

Funeral services will be held Thursday May 29, 2025, at 11am at Hood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday May 28, 2025, from 6pm-8pm at the funeral home. The burial will be in Haley’s Grove Cemetery.
