Janis Lee Hope, age 76
Janis Lee Hope of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, in the early morning hours of December 8, 2022, after a valiant battle against cancer and COPD. Jan was born to Ernie Darlis Grady and Sherrill Kathlyn Grady on December 29, 1945, in Alice, Texas, on her mother’s 20th birthday. When Jan was 6 years old the family moved to Pampa, Texas, where she attended school until she graduated from high school in 1963. She attended college at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. Afterwards she moved back to Pampa where she married John Lyle and raised her 3 children. After relocating to Odessa, Texas she met the love of her life, J.R. Hope. They married in December of 1989 and were married nearly 33 years. She enjoyed her retirement to its fullest with her husband, sister, brother-in-law and many friends in Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. Jan had a vibrant out-going personality and was loved by many. She loved games of all kinds and played bocce, card games, Mah Jongg, dominoes, word games and crossword puzzles with a competitive spirit. She always looked forward to trips to Kentucky to the horse races and was known for hosting Kentucky Derby parties in her home. Her sense of humor and her practical guidance will be greatly missed. Jan is survived by her husband, J.R. Hope, her children Tony (Sherry) Lyle, Andrew (Nicole) Lyle, Kristi (David) Kotzur; stepdaughter Janice (Mark) Powell, stepson Chris (Micah); sister Beverly (Charles) Pulse, brother John (Ruth) Grady; grandchildren Grady, Abigail, Luci, Gentry, Jack, Nick, Macy, Brady, Landon and Evan. A celebration of life service will take place in Texas in 2023
