Jewel Gurney, 84
Jewel Gurney, age 84, of Kingston, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at UT Medical Center in Knoxville. She was born on December 15, 1941, in Louisiana. Jewel later made her home in Bridge City, Texas, where she and Larry lived for more than 60 years before moving to Kingston in 2021 to be closer to family. Throughout her career, she worked as an Executive Secretary for Polysar Corporation, where she was respected for her dedication and professionalism.
Jewel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was centered around her family. She shared 66 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, Larry Gurney. Married on January 2, 1960, the couple built a beautiful life together filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Jewel enjoyed traveling and seeing different places, cooking, and playing Texas Holdom poker. Above all else, she treasured spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother and a loyal friend to many. Jewel also had a special place in her heart for cats and lovingly cared for several feline companions throughout the years, including Striper, Sleepy, and Sneaky.
She was a member of the Catholic faith.
Jewel was preceded in death by her son, Darrell Gurney; and great-grandson, Cooper Harvey; parents, Kenney and Ila McGee; brothers, Kenney McGee, Jr., Elvin McGee, and Ellis McGee.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 66 years, Larry Gurney of Kingston; son, Larry Gurney, Jr. and wife, Debra of Kingston; sister, Joy Parker; grandchildren, Rock Gurney, Randi Powell, Callie Harvey, Trissa Miller, Boomer Gurney, and Hunter Gurney; and eleven great-grandchildren, Kaiden Gurney, Tinley Powell, Emory Powell, Lucy Powell, Axton Gurney, Sylvi Miller, Casen Harvey, Tucker Miller, Avery Gurney, Cohen Harvey, Remi Gurney. She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
Jewel will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering love for her family, and the countless lives she touched through her friendship, generosity, and caring spirit. Her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The family will receive friends 12:00 – 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Fraker Funeral Home with funeral mass following at 1:00 pm, in the chapel with Father Michael Sweeney presiding.
