JOHNSON CITY MAYOR SUDDENLY RESIGNS

On Monday, Johnson City Mayor John Hunter resigned from his position and the City Commission following the circulation of a social media video showing him stumbling in downtown Johnson City, and ending with a white truck driving away.
In his resignation letter, Hunter stated he did not want to distract from the city’s focus on continued success and positive achievements, leading to his difficult decision to step down effective immediately.
The city’s charter permits the City Commission to appoint an incumbent to fill the vacant seat until the next regular election. The commission plans to discuss the process for filling the vacancy during its Thursday afternoon work session and consider formally accepting Hunter’s resignation at the evening’s regular meeting. If accepted, Vice Mayor Greg Cox would assume the role of mayor.
