It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph (Jim) Halleran announces his passing on February 17, 2021 at the age of 67. Jim will be remembered by his beloved wife of 45 years: Christine; children: Jimmy, Sean, and Brian; his beloved grandchildren, Grace, Anthony, and Natalie; and his brothers: Patrick and Timothy.  Born in Altoona, PA, he was a son of the late Joseph and Peggy Halleran.

He began a successful career in law enforcement in 1977 as a Miramar police officer.  In 1983 he joined the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, culminating with his retirement in 2005 after 31 years in public service.

After retirement, Jim moved to Crossville where he enjoyed RVing with his wife, playing golf, and rooting for the Fighting Irish. Through the years, he stayed active as a firearms instructor at the Institute of Public Safety. He loved the Lord and was an active member of Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church and was very involved in church activities.  He was a fun-loving guy who enjoyed telling a joke or just making people laugh. Jim never met a stranger.

Jim served as a board member of the Fraternal Order of Police as the Chaplain, providing support and care to all police officers and their families in Broward County in their time of need. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and an avid community volunteer.

The Halleran Family would like to express our most heartfelt gratitude to select members of the Cumberland County Medical Center nursing staff (His Angels, Stephanie and Ashley) for the kind and compassionate care they extended to Jim during his illness.

In lieu of flowers or other memorial gifts, the family asks for donations to be sent to Concerns of Police Survivors (https://www.concernsofpolicesurvivors.org). There are no funeral arrangements at this time. A celebration of life is planned for later in the year.
