JUVENILE PASSES AWAY AFTER HIT BY TRACTOR-TRAILER FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH ON I-40

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a North Carolina juvenile passed away yesterday after he was hit by a tractor-trailer on I-40.

Troopers say a Subaru Forester ran off the right side of I-40 West at the 252-mile marker in Smith County. The vehicle went into a ditch line and hit an embankment, causing it to overturn.

Two boys, ages 11 and 10, were ejected from the Subaru while it rolled over and thrown into the roadway. The 11-year-old died after being struck by a tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer could not stop in time or have time to take evasive action.

Troopers added 36-year-old Corixa Luz Esponza Valdes, of North Carolina, was driving the Subaru and has pending charges. Both Valdes and another passenger, 37-year-old Douglas Moises Lopez Castillo, were also injured.

The interstate at the scene was closed for several hours as troopers investigated the accident.
