K-9 SEARCH CONDUCTED ON THREE MORGAN COUNTY SCHOOLS
At the request of Morgan County Sheriff Wayne Potter, in cooperation with the Morgan County Schools Director David Treece, and in coordination with Morgan County EMA Director Ethan Webb, a joint K-9 search and operation was conducted on three Morgan County Schools this morning in a measure to be proactive and further our commitment to providing a safe and drug-free learning environment.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Harriman Police Department, Rockwood Police Department, and Safe Nose Canine Detection with owner Jonathan O’Neal converged on Sunbright High School, Coalfield High School, and the Morgan County Career and Technical Center with K-9 detection dogs to search the schools for contraband.
Additionally, more schools will be scheduled to search soon.
“It is imperative we work together on behalf of all Morgan County children to provide a safe and drug-free learning environment. Today, with assistance and coordination from multiple agencies and personnel, we succeeded in being proactive in our shared mission. We especially thank our Morgan County partner at EMA, Director Ethan Webb, for using his resources and responsibilities to coordinate all these agencies and partners to come together to Morgan County. Additionally, our law enforcement partners and private sector partners are essential in this endeavor and are appreciated. This could not be possible without the relationship we have with the Morgan County Schools and Director David Treece, who we appreciate wholly,” said Sheriff Potter.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce no K-9 alerts were detected on illegal narcotics at the three schools. Some contraband in violation of school policy was found but no violations of state law were discovered.
