KNOX COUNTY TO CREATE 20 TINY HOMES FOR HOMELESS VETS

Knox County, Tennessee, has launched Operation Hero’s Hill, a new initiative to provide tiny homes for homeless veterans, as announced on a dedicated county website. In its initial phase, the program will construct 20 tiny homes, built by students from Knox County Schools’ Career and Technical Education Programs under expert supervision, with construction set to begin this month.
Veterans will also have access to a community center equipped with a computer lab and laundry facilities. D.R. Horton is donating all building supplies, and the county is accepting additional donations through its website. The initiative, a collaboration between Knox County government, schools, the VA, Knoxville’s Community Development Corporation, and nonprofit and private sector partners, was highlighted by Mayor Glenn Jacobs during his 2025-26 budget proposal, which also included plans for a healthcare clinic for the homeless.
With Knox County’s homeless population—approximately 2,300 people accessing services daily, according to the Knoxville-Knox County Office of Housing Stability—Jacobs emphasized the goal of ensuring veterans have a place to call home through this community-driven effort.
