KRYPTO THE SUPERDOG PLAYED BY RESCUED DOG FROM MAURY COUNTY

The dog featured as Krypto in the new Superman movie, which earned $122 million during its opening weekend in 2025, was rescued from Maury County Animal Shelter in Tennessee.
Named Sparrow, the dog was highlighted by Maury County Mayor Sheila Butt as a local success story, going from a rescue to starring on the big screen. Director James Gunn noted that Krypto’s character was inspired by his own rescue dog, Ozu, who came from a hoarding situation involving 60 other dogs.
