Larry Vaughn Sherrill, 58

Larry Vaughn Sherrill went home to be with the Lord on August 3, 2025. He was born on December 1, 1966, in Rockwood, Tennessee, to Kenneth and Linda Carolyn Sherrill. Larry’s lifelong dedication to his community began soon after graduating high school. He started by working in the school system, later serving as a police officer and investigator. For 20 years, he faithfully held the role of Cumberland County’s Circuit Court Clerk. A strong believer in justice, Larry was a tireless advocate for fairness and second chances. One of his guiding mottos was: “Dale Elmore gave me a chance—everybody needs a chance.” Larry never met a stranger. He had a deep love for people and was a natural at building relationships. His compassion, coupled with a deep-rooted belief in the underdog, shaped the way he lived. He was active in the Shriners and committed to supporting those in need. Above all, Larry was a man of faith who loved the Lord. After retiring, Larry enjoyed what he fondly called “piddling.” He spent countless hours on his tractor, collected Case knives and what some might call “junk,” and loved browsing flea markets and the 127 Yard Sale. Known for his easygoing spirit, Larry was famously late—even to his first date with his wife, LeaAnn. He was known to sneak in power naps at red lights and delighted in giving nicknames to just about everyone, especially his children and grandchildren. Larry was a devoted husband, father, and an especially proud grandfather. He loved his grandchildren ferociously, and spending time with them brought him great joy. Larry is survived by his loving wife, LeaAnn Sherrill, and his children: Kristin Steele (Nate), Mitchell Ward (Stage), and Isaac Sherrill. He was cherished as “Pa Larry” to Blakelee Daugherty, Boone Ward, Mason Daugherty, Rhett Ward, and Sutton Ward. He is also survived by his siblings, Fred Sherrill (Deborah) and Jill Honcoop (Steven); his aunts, Betty Cross and Reta Pippin; uncle, Wallace Hayes; nephews, Kyle Sherrill (Jessica) and Luke Honcoop; and great-nephew, Kameron Sherrill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Linda Carolyn Sherrill, and his nephews, Ethan Honcoop, Ian Honcoop, and Logan Sherrill. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM CDT at Cumberland Fellowship Church in Crossville, Tennessee. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM, with burial immediately after in Dogwood Cemetery in Grandview, TN. We ask that you honor Larry by continuing his legacy: help someone who has lost their way, believe in the good in people, or support a young person chasing their dreams in criminal justice or public service.
