LAWMAKER INTRODUCES RESOLUTION TO MAKE THE BIBLE THE STATE BOOK OF TENNESSEE

A Tennessee state lawmaker has submitted legislation to make the Holy Bible the official state book. This is the third attempt from Representative Jerry Sexton of Bean Station regarding the matter. House Joint Resolution 150 mentions the role family Bibles have played in record keeping and that several Bible publishers are headquartered in Nashville. Sexton first introduced the proposal in 2015 and was approval of the General Assembly. It would go one to get a veto by then Governor Bill Haslam. Sexton reintroduced the measure last year but the legislative session ended without lawmakers voting on it. The new resolution has been referred to the House Naming and Designating Committee for their consideration.
