A Tennessee man is in custody, accused of the beating death of an infant.

Memphis police have charged 33-year-old Jose Avila-Agurcia with murder in the death of 4-month-old Alexander Lizondro-Chacon. The child was taken to a hospital after being found unresponsive April 12; he was pronounced dead from blunt force trauma to the head.

The infant’s mother, Mercy Lizondro-Chacon, told investigators Avila-Agurcia said he struck Alexander multiple times in anger after learning he wasn’t the baby’s father.
