MAN ARRESTED AFTER TRYING TO DESTROY EVIDENCE DURING TRAFFIC STOP
On November 26th Officer Keith Sadula conducted a traffic stop on a green Nissan Sentra after observing the vehicle about to turn left on East 1st Street but switched to turning right after seeing the officer. The vehicle was also paced going 42 mph in a 30 mph zone on Ivy Avenue.
The driver said she was going to Speedway on West Avenue, and that is when the officer noticed the passenger in the vehicle reaching with their left hand toward the floorboard. The passenger was identified as Sebastian Williams and asked to show his hands as the officer didn’t know what he was reaching for.
Well getting the driver’s registration, the officer noticed Williams reaching toward the floorboard again. This is when the officer went to the passenger side and ordered Williams to let the officer see what he was reaching for.
In the floorboard, between Williams’s legs, was a rolled-up piece of toilet paper with rubber bands around it. Officer Sadula told Williams to give him the item, however, Williams would not comply. Instead, Williams began unraveling it and wouldn’t comply with multiple commands to give it to the officer.
Once Williams unraveled it, he appeared to have dumped a substance in the floorboard. Officer Sadula reached into the vehicle to stop Williams from destroying any more of the evidence. Williams then gave the officer the toilet paper which contained aluminum foil known for holding and using narcotics. Williams was placed under arrest.
Also found in the vehicle was a plastic cigarette carton with plastic straws known to be used for consuming narcotics, and a piece of burnt aluminum foil.
After being transported to intake, Williams was noticed making heavy furtive movements towards his pants. He was strip-searched at intake and an object fell out during the search but wasn’t collected due to being a possible biohazard.
Williams was charged with drug equipment violations and tampering with evidence.
