At around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, November 24, 2022, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting on McConnell Street near Kenner Avenue. Officers arrived on the scene and found a man who had been shot inside a car and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The victim of the deadly shooting has been identified as Martel Thomas, age 27. The victim recently moved to Knoxville from Detroit, Michigan.
Prior to calling 9-1-1, witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and then finding the victim dead inside the car. A possible suspect vehicle, described as a black four-door sedan, was seen leaving the area after the shooting. The shooting appeared to be targeted.
No suspects have been arrested or charged and the investigation, which is being led by the Knoxville Police Department Violent Crimes Unit, is ongoing at this time.
