MAN KIDNAPS JUVENILE FROM PUTNAM COUNTY AND HIDES HER UNDER MATTRESS

An investigation about a possible Putnam County juvenile runaway turned out to be a kidnapping case instead.

Devon Wayne Yokeum, age 19 from Smithville, was taken into custody last Saturday. According to the arrest warrant, the juvenile victim went to a movie with Yokeum. The victim asked to be taken to her own vehicle afterward and Yokeum refused to do so and took the victim to his residence in Dekalb County instead.

Statements made by the victim and Yokeum reveal that the victim had been held against her will. He also “hollowed out the bottom side of a mattress and hid her there until local law enforcement arrived looking for the victim”.

The report does not state how long the victim was held against her will.
