MAN RESCUED FROM CAVE IN WHITE COUNTY
Numerous emergency agencies responded to a cave in the northeastern part of White County Friday night for a rescue. Officers say Jim Fox fell 10 feet inside of a cave and landed on a ledge. That is when a boulder dislodged and landed on his leg, possibly breaking it. The cave pathways were very technical with several drops, more than 60 feet increments and the ledge the patient was climbing was reported to be about 100 feet off the floor of a dome pit. Crews say rigging teams were put together to be deployed into the cave in order to build haul systems to get Fox up the vertical pits. At one point there were over 30 rescuers inside the cave working to get Fox out safely. Crews got to the patient and got him out of the cave just before 3 a.m. yesterday. Fox was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained.
