The McMinn County Sheriff’s Department confirms an Athens man is dead after attempting to break into a residence this morning. Officers say 39-year-old Sante Mack was found lying in the yard with gunshot wounds. The report states Mack went to the house and broke in through a window. Mack then allegedly assaulted a woman inside with a gun then fired a shot. One person inside the home, 34-year-old Jesse Applebee, was armed and fatally shot Mack. The incident is under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
