MARION COUNTY PASTOR REPORTEDLY STOLE THOUSANDS FROM DISABLED MAN
A pastor in Marion County, Tennessee has been indicted on multiple charges after prosecutors say he stole thousands of dollars from a man with disabilities.
David C. Berry of Jasper was indicted for financial exploitation of an elderly or vulnerable adult, theft over $10,000, and violations of the Computer Crimes Act.
Berry is the pastor of the Praise & Worship Outreach Center and the owner of The Tax Service in Jasper.
Officials with the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office states Berry was appointed in 2011 as the representative payee on behalf of a disabled adult.
Investigators determined Berry misused more than $27,000 of the man’s money. That amount includes about $16,500 being paid to Berry’s church in authorized checks; about $9,000 withdrawn and transferred from the disabled adult’s accounts; nearly $900 used to pay for Berry and his wife’s dental care; and an additional $800 used to pay an auto shop for work completed on Berry’s vehicle.
