MARYVILLE COUPLE CHARGED WITH CHILD SEX CRIMES FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION

Maryville, Tennessee – Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong announced that investigators charged a man and woman with crimes against children following an investigation that began in July.
The following individuals were charged:
• David Dewayne Drinnen, 60, of Long Hollow Road, Maryville, is charged with aggravated rape and failure to follow the rules of the court. He is being held on a $250,000 bond and hold without bond on the failure to follow the rules of the court.
• Cayla Shae Hopkins Drinnen, 31, same address, is charged with aggravated rape, aggravated child abuse, trafficking for commercial sex, and two counts of solicitation of a minor. She is being held on bonds totaling $800,000.
Sheriff’s investigators began an inquiry in July after receiving information that David Drinnen injected a 14-year-old girl with methamphetamine and raped her at the Drinnen’s home on Long Hollow Road in July. During the course of this investigation, investigators uncovered additional evidence that Cayla Hopkins Drinnen offered to pay another 14-year-old female family member to perform indecent acts on David Drinnen at their home on Long Hollow Road.
David Dewayne Drinnen and Cayla Shae Hopkins Drinnen are both currently on probation for prior crimes.
Both individuals are scheduled to appear in Blount County General Sessions Court at 1:30 pm August 21, 2024.
