MAYOR CRAWFORD DECLARES APRIL ‘SAFE DIGGING MONTH’

Mayor R.J. Crawford declared April 2025 as Safe Digging Month at last night’s city council meeting with a proclamation. The proclamation highlights the risks of damaging underground infrastructure due to not calling 811 before digging, which can lead to service disruptions, environmental harm, and injuries or fatalities.

Tennessee 811 and its 600 member utilities promote the 811 “Call Before You Dig” number, established by the FCC in 2007, to help prevent such incidents by allowing excavators and homeowners to request the location of underground lines. The proclamation emphasizes that safe digging saves time and money, maintains national connectivity, and is a shared responsibility.

The mayor encourages all citizens to participate in this initiative.
