MAYOR OF LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN ARRESTED FOR DUI

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Troopers arrested the mayor of Lookout Mountain, Georgia Tuesday night and charged him with driving under the influence.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) says officers with the Lookout Mountain, Tennessee Police Department tried to stop a vehicle for a headlight violation and a failure to maintain lane.

The GSP says “Mr. Bennett continued to drive and crossed into Georgia and came to a stop.”

Officers with the Lookout Mountain, Georgia arrived on the scene and recognized who was behind the wheel. They immediately reached out to the GSP to handle the case, after “smelling the odor of an alcoholic beverage.”

Troopers conducted field sobriety tests and arrested Mayor Bennett.

Bennett was taken to the Walker County Jail.

We reached out to the mayor’s office for comment, and we were told he wasn’t in the office. We have reached out to the city manager, and we’ll update this story if and when we get a response.
