MCMINN COUNTY HOMESCHOOLER CHARGED WITH SOCIAL MEDIA THREAT

A McMinn County homeschooler has been charged with making threats against another student over social media. In a release from Sheriff Joe Guy, school officials and authorities responded Thursday night to an “online” argument, in which they say a Niota Elementary School 8th grader was threatened. The student who had been on the receiving end of a series of threats revealed the messages to deputies, who began an investigation which led to a 16-year-old suspect. Sheriff Guy says that although the school was placed on “soft lockdown”, there was never a threat to the school. The suspect will be charged in juvenile court. More arrests could be pending.
