MISSING MADISONVILLE TEEN FOUND SAFE; ADOPTIVE FATHER CHARGED WITH RAPE
Following up on a tip through the FBI, investigators have found a missing 14-year-old Madisonville teenager who disappeared January 13. The girl was found safe at a home in Wisconsin. And Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones said the man who adopted her “several years” ago has been arrested.
“She is safe, she is in custody, and that’s the best outcome for the situation,” he commented during a press briefing.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Rick Lavoie confirmed 41-year-old Randall Lee Pruitt was charged Thursday afternoon with a single count of rape and is being held without bond at the Monroe County Jail. He’s due in court February 5.
Jones indicated last night the rape charge was separate from the girl’s disappearance, adding Pruitt’s connection to the case is still unclear, but investigators don’t believe Pruitt is directly connected to his adoptive daughter’s disappearance.
Jones would not elaborate on where in Wisconsin the girl was located, or how she ended up there.
Investigators believe the girl left what’s been described as “a bad home situation” in Madisonville. Authorities say her three younger siblings are safe. The teen is reported to be in good health, and officials are working on returning her to Tennessee.
Authorities provided few other details, so as not to compromise the integrity of the investigation, but they did say multiple people were involved in the case and an investigation is ongoing.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the FBI are assisting the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.
1057 News maintains a policy of not identifying victims of sexual assault and, therefore, is no longer naming the girl in ongoing reports or showing her photo.
