MONROE SHERIFF WARNS OF PUBLISHER’S CLEARING HOUSE SCAMS
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has issued a public scam alert warning residents about fraudulent phone calls where individuals falsely claim to represent Publisher’s Clearing House (PCH). These scammers are requesting sensitive personal information, such as dates of birth and/or Social Security numbers.
Authorities emphasize that this is unequivocally a scam. Legitimate companies, banks, government agencies, and sweepstakes organizations like PCH will never contact you unsolicited to ask for such details. The office advises that if you receive an unexpected call demanding personal information—including date of birth, Social Security number, banking details, address, or other sensitive data—you should not provide it and instead hang up immediately.
Scammers target people daily with these tactics, so staying vigilant and protecting your information is crucial. When in doubt, simply end the call, and sharing this warning can help protect others in the community. Stay safe!
