MORE DETAILS RELEASED AFTER FOUR-YEAR-OLD SHOT AND KILLED

Rockwood, TN- The woman accused of pointing a gun at a four-year-old and pulling the trigger killing the small child, remains in jail today. According to Chief Deputy Tim Hawn, the woman identified as 25-year-old Brianna G. Duvall Runions waved her right to go before the judge on Tuesday for a hearing and remains under a 1.5 million dollar bond. Her next scheduled court date is set for September 26th.
The report from District Attorney Russel Johnson states that Runions had a 9 mm handgun in her hand, removed the magazine, and pointed the gun to the child’s chest area as she claimed she was showing the 4-year-old gun safety. The weapon discharged straining the child in the torso and was rushed to meet an ambulance at Rockwood Wal-Mart for transport to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The report listed the 4-year-old by the last name Gunter.
A witness at the location stated in the report that she was in the same bedroom when the incident happened. She stated she observed Runions pull out the firearm, remove the magazine from the firearm, and put the gun to the child’s chest. The witness claims she turned away and did not observe Runions pull the trigger or discharge the weapon but did hear the gunshot.
The investigation is continuing and no further information can be released at this time. Officials say that it’s likely Brianna G. Duvall Runions’s case will go before the grand jury in late September.
