MORE THAN 700 SOLDIERS SLATED TO RETURN TO FORT CAMPBELL THIS MONTH
More than 700 soldiers are heading back to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, this month. The “Task Force Destiny” soldiers of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division are returning from a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. They’d been providing aviation support to U.S., coalition and Afghan forces. Fort Campbell is on the Kentucky-Tennessee border.
The soldiers racked up more than 50,000 flight hours in the process of transporting in excess of seven million pounds of cargo and 91,000 passengers, conducting 1,700 security missions and completing 256 air-assault operations.
Five “Task Force Destiny” soldiers received the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and valor.
One of the returning groups will be met with a welcome home ceremony today.
