MORE THAN 80 COWS TAKEN FROM A RUTLEDGE FARM
GRAINGER COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The Grainger County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after more than 80 cows disappeared from a Rutledge farm last month.
According to a GCSO incident report, the owner of the cows said they were at the farm on Buffalo Springs Road on Friday, May 17, but when they came back to check on the cows on the following Tuesday, the cows were missing.
At the scene, investigators at the scene made plaster castings of tire impressions and found cattle ear tag backings. The investigator wrote that 84 cows were reported taken from the farm.
One of the owners spoke with WATE and shared that she and her husband, who are both in their 70s, purchased the cows as an investment for their children and grandchildren.
In addition to the 84 cows, she said 43 calves are also missing. Once the cattle were reported missing, she said they were waiting on leads from the sheriff’s office and the state agricultural investigator.
“As of now, we’re just hoping and praying that they get some information and catch who done it,” she said.
She also shared that a reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
