MOTHER OF MISSING TENNESSEE CHILD CHARGED WITH LYING TO AUTHORITIES

A Tennessee mom was arrested yesterday in Sullivan County for allegedly making false reports related to the disappearance of her 15-month-old daughter.

She was booked into the Sullivan County jail and remained there as of last night on a  $25,000 bail.

Officers say 18-year-old Megan Boswell has given law enforcement conflicting information about her daughter Evelyn Mae Boswell, who was last seen in December but wasn’t reported missing until February 18, 2020.

“Further investigation revealed that some of the information provided by Megan Boswell was false,” the department added.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued an Amber Alert on February 19, 2020 at the request of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, a day after Evelyn’s grandfather reported her missing.

Boswell told a media outlet she has been in contact with Evelyn’s father who is in the military stationed in Louisiana and he plans to try to take leave to help look for her.

On Friday, Megan said she didn’t report her daughter’s disappearance because she “knew the person who had her. Megan said yesterday she was referring to her mom, Angela Boswell, who was never the best mother.

She said her mother “was supposed to babysit [Evelyn in December.] It didn’t turn out that way.”

“If you talk to anybody who actually knows me, they know that I would never hurt Evelyn or do anything like that,” Megan said. She said the pain “just gets worse every day.”

Officers say 42-year-old Angela Boswell (Megan’s mother) and 33-year-old William McCloud were arrested in North Carolina last Friday where police said they were found inside a car that was reported stolen.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says on its website that detectives questioned the couple and that they are being held on charges unrelated to the disappearance of the child.

In a North Carolina court after their arrest, McCloud told a judge that they did not know the car had not been paid for and that it was given to them by Megan Boswell. Megan Boswell said she did not want to comment on that claim.

None of them have been charged with the child’s disappearance.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation describes the case as complicated, in part because of the conflicting statements and the fact the child wasn’t reported missing right away.

“We know you have a lot of questions about this case. So do we,” agency spokesman Josh DeVine said in a video that was distributed on social media this week.

Authorities are looking for any information that could lead to Evelyn’s whereabouts. More than 500 tips have been received, and agents and detectives are continuing to pursue any leads, the agency said.
