MOTHER OF RHEA COUNTY CHILD FATALLY SHOT NOW FACING CHARGES

Rhea County authorities say a mother is now facing charges in the deadly shooting of her 7-year-old son Joe’Zie Brown in Dayton.

A grand jury indicted Lakisha Shannay Jones for tampering with evidence and false reports.

The indictments state Jones concealed a firearm and made false statements to police.

The Rhea County Sheriff’s Department says the incident happened on January 14, 2024, when deputies responded to shots fired at a home on Upper Fine Road.

Christion Jones was charged with homicide after he allegedly pulled the trigger of the firearm and shot the child.

Joe’Zie was a second grader at Rhea Central Elementary, where he played football for the Dayton Little Eagles.
