MOTORCYCLIST CHARGED WITH DUI

Early Thursday morning, Crossville police responded to the area of Miller Avenue and Lantana Road about a possibly intoxicated motorcyclist. The caller said the driver had stopped at the red light and fell over, then approached the caller, seeking help.

When police arrived, 53-year-old Michael Robert Scarbro of Heiskell was still at the traffic light, trying to get his motorcycle started. Officers reported they immediately smelled alcohol coming from Scarbro, who had red, watery eyes and slurred speech.

When asked if he’d had any alcohol, Scarbro said he’d had one mixed drink. He was unable to pass field-sobriety tests and was taken into custody for DUI.

After being informed a warrant had been granted for his blood, Scarbro reportedly became combative and had to be placed in a restraint chair by correctional staff in order for City Fire personnel to obtain a blood sample.

Scarbro was placed under $2,500 bond and is due in court June 3.
