MULTIPLE AGENGIES RESCUE INJURED HIKER IN WHITE COUNTY

Sparta, TN-  Just before 4:30 PM Saturday night, multiple agencies were dispatched to the Glade Creek area for an injured hiker.
Initially, crews had a difficult time locating the injured hiker in extremely rugged terrain. As a result, fire and rescue members from across the Upper Cumberland were requested for manpower and technical rescue resources. BonDeCroft Fire, White County Rescue, Crossville Fire and Rescue, Cumberland County Fire, Cumberland County Rescue Squad, Overton County Rescue Squad, White County EMS, Mt. Gilead Volunteer Fire Department, White County Office of Emergency Management, White County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson, White County Sheriff’s Office with a total of 61 personnel all assisted with the rescue.
“The patient was located and not critically injured. The teams from across the area are working together to extract the victim and transport them to an area hospital,” Technician Aaron Scott, incident commander said.
BonDeCroft Fire Chief Shannon Smith stated, “This is an example of what being a volunteer is about. Members came together from many agencies to resolve this issue. I can’t say thanks enough for all of the support.”
An update at 10:45 PM. stated members were still working to get the victim up the bluff.
As of 4:35 AM, all members are back at the command post, sorting gear, and will be released as soon as possible.
Remember to support your local volunteer fire and rescue departments when they are doing fundraisers. Without that critical funding, these missions are much more difficult to accomplish.
