Sunday afternoon, Cumberland County deputies passed a vehicle headed eastbound on Highway 70 North; the subject vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in the day from Junior Camp Road. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt. Deputies turned around and initiated a traffic stop. Rather than stopping, the vehicle was said to have swerved recklessly onto Junior Camp Road. Using their blue lights to signal the driver to pull over did not work; nor did engaging the siren.

The suspect continued to flee, reaching speeds of up to 80 miles per hour, traveling into the lane of oncoming traffic multiple times.

Deputies continued to pursue the driver for several miles, until he turned abruptly into the driveway of the home from which the car had been reported stolen. The suspect fled through the yard and to the rear of the house, leaving behind two adult passengers and a two-month-old infant in the vehicle.

Deputies followed the suspect, who ignored commands to stop and fled into a wooded area.

Twenty-eight-year-old Joshua Ryan England of Monterey was eventually apprehended. Deputies learned England had an outstanding warrant from Putnam County and a suspended driver’s license.

England was charged with felony child endangerment, two counts of evading arrest (for the vehicular pursuit and the foot chase), reckless endangerment and driving on a revoked or suspended license. England was placed under $11,000 bond and is due to appear in court May 20.
