Police in north Nashville report a teenage boy shot his mother and then turned the gun on himself Tuesday night. Officers responded to the home on the 3500 block of Chesapeake Drive just before 8:30.

A family member called 911 and said 37-year-old Tiffany Redmon had been shot by her 17-year-old son, Jshaun Redmon.

Officers found the teen dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the yard across the street from his home.

His mother died of her injuries at a local hospital. Wednesday would have been her 38th birthday.

Detectives are still investigating the shooting and are working to determine a motive.
