NATHAN NEWPORT CASE MOVES TO GRAND JURY AFTER PRELIM. HEARING
Oak Ridge, TN – February 28, 2025 – A man accused in the 2022 shooting death of his wife appeared in General Sessions Court, Division II, in Oak Ridge for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Nathan Newport, 62, is facing charges after his wife, Janice Newport, 52, was found dead in their home on December 12, 2022, the result of a fatal shotgun blast. According to evidence presented in court, the couple had an ongoing divorce case at the time of the incident.
Following testimony and evidence presented in court, Judge Matthew Tuck determined there was sufficient cause to bind Newport’s case over to the Anderson County Grand Jury.
The case was investigated by the Oliver Springs Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from Anderson County EMS and the Knox County Regional Forensic Center.
