NEW MARKET POLICE OFFICER ARRESTED, CHARGED WITH SOLICITATION OF A MINOR

A joint law-enforcement investigation has resulted in the arrest of a New Market police officer for arranging to have sexual activity with a minor.

At the request of 4th District Attorney General Jimmy B. Dunn, special agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Drug Investigation Division, 4th Judicial Drug Task Force, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Knoxville Police Department investigated 43-year-old New Market police officer Joseph Ray Miller over a four-week period. During that time, they learned Miller attempted to arrange, through another adult, to engage in sexual activity with a girl under the age of 13. The investigation revealed Miller intended to pay money both to the girl for engaging in the act, and to the adult for making the arrangement.

Friday night, TBI agents and THP officers arrested Miller on one count of solicitation of a minor. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail. His bond will be set at his next court appearance.
