NEWBORN DIES DAYS AFTER PREGNANT KENTUCKY MOTHER FATALLY SHOT
Authorities in Whitley County, Kentucky, are investigating a double homicide, now that four-day-old Amelia Johnson has died.
Geri Johnson, age 29, of Williamsburg, Kentucky, was seven months pregnant when she was brought in to the emergency room at Baptist Health Corbin Hospital Saturday evening with a gunshot wound. Johnson died of her injuries at the hospital. Doctors delivered Johnsonβs baby, Amelia, who was transferred to the UK Medical Center in critical condition. Amelia died Tuesday evening. The coronerβs report lists Ameliaβs cause of death as severe hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, and the manner of death was homicide.
Kentucky State Police say the circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear; Johnsonβs bodyΒ has been taken to the State Medical Examinerβs Office in Frankfort for an autopsy; an investigation into her shooting is continuing. KSP detectives are being assisted by troopers from KSP Post 11 in London, Kentucky, as well as the Corbin Police Department and Whitley County Sheriffβs Office.
