NEYLAND STADIUM LIGHTS UP IN BLUE TO HONOR FALLEN BLOUNT COUNTY DEPUTY

The University of Tennessee lit Neyland Stadium in blue last night in honor of Blount County Deputy Greg McCowan, who was laid to rest earlier in the day.

“We’ve known for years those Neyland Lights are something else and tonight, thanks to Tennessee Athletics, they are shining blue for Blount County Sheriff’s Office fallen deputy Greg McCowan,” the University of Tennessee Police wrote on Facebook. “May his service and sacrifice never be forgotten.”

McCowan was fatally shot during a traffic stop on February 8, 2024. Another deputy, Deputy Shelby Eggers, was shot in the leg. She was treated at an area hospital and was released to recover at home.

A suspect, Kenneth DeHart, is charged with the death of McCowan.
