NISSAN TO CUT JOBS IN SMYRNA, CANTON, AND DECHERD
According to recent confirmation by the car manufacturing giant, Nissan plants in Smyrna, Canton, and Decherd will experience job cuts.
To begin, the company will be looking for volunteers for the layoffs, and offering severance packages for those opting in.
In a recent statement, Nissan said it is taking measures to ensure that production aligns with market and customer needs. These actions will include changing shift patterns and facilities in the United States to match production volumes with market demand.
Nissan is now offering certain hourly employees a voluntary separation package and they hope this approach will ensure “more efficient operations at the plants under current market conditions.”
Nissan’s plant in Decherd employs around 1,700 people, the Canton plant employs roughly 4,300 people, and the plant in Smyrna employs 5,700 people.
