OAK RIDGE ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES NEW HOMETOWN GRID OUTAGE REPORTING SYSTEM
The City of Oak Ridge Electric Department (CORED) announced yesterday the launch of its new outage reporting and monitoring system called Hometown Grid, which is now live. This upgrade allows customers to easily report power outages anytime by texting or calling the dedicated number (833) 628-3400, without needing an app or login.
Upon reporting, the system automatically confirms receipt and poses a few brief follow-up questions to help crews more accurately locate and address the problem. Reported outages appear instantly on a public interactive map available at oakridgetn.gov/outages, providing residents with real-time visibility into affected areas and restoration updates.
Director Ardo Ba emphasized that effective communication during outages is essential, noting that this tool reassures customers their issue is known while enabling faster, more efficient crew responses. Designed for local utilities and already adopted by other regional cities, Hometown Grid helps prevent overlooked reports and keeps the community better informed.
The previous reporting number still connects to the department with an option to report outages, but the new number and map are the primary recommended methods. For additional details, residents can contact CORED at (865) 425-1803 or visit oakridgetn.gov/electric.
