OLIVER SPRINGS COUNCIL CONSIDERS TRANSITION TO ANDERSON 911 DISPATCH

BBBTV12 – OLIVER SPRINGS, TN — The Oliver Springs Town Council discussed a potential shift in police dispatch services during a meeting Monday night, following a presentation by Anderson County 911 Director. The proposal would align the town’s police dispatch operations with Anderson County 911, a system that already oversees dispatch for the Oliver Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

Fire Chief Justin Bailey spoke in favor of Anderson County 911, stating that the partnership with the fire department has worked “wonderfully.” However, council members expressed hesitation, requesting more detailed information in written form before making any decisions.

Mayor Jason Stiltner and City Manager Corey Jenkins had previously met with the Anderson County 911 Director to discuss the proposal. However, some council members were caught off guard by the director’s attendance at Monday’s meeting, viewing it as a push to accelerate the process.

The council also expressed interest in exploring options with Roane County 911 to compare potential benefits. Any decision about transferring services may come as early as next month or in early 2025.

One key consideration in the transition involves the town’s four full-time dispatchers, whose positions would be affected if the switch to Anderson County 911 occurs. The director indicated these employees could potentially transfer to work under the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department, as all Anderson County 911 dispatchers operate under the sheriff’s oversight.

For now, no action has been taken, and the council will review additional details before proceeding. Updates on this developing story will follow.
