ONGOING ROAD CONSTRUCTION AND BRIDGE REPAIRS CAUSE DELAYS ACROSS CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Motorists traveling through Cumberland County should prepare for widespread traffic disruptions, lane closures, and detours as multiple major highway, bridge, and resurfacing projects continue.

Interstates and Major Highways

  • Interstate 40: Ongoing median construction, bridge repairs, and resurfacing are impacting several stretches of I-40. Nightly resurfacing work is scheduled from Sunday through Friday between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. from mile marker 306 to 311. Additionally, bridge repairs over Main Street near Crab Orchard (mile marker 328) have reduced Main Street to a single lane controlled by temporary signals.
  • Sparta Highway: Resurfacing between Deep Water Road and POW Camp Road brings daily lane closures and flagging Monday through Friday, prompting officials to advise alternate routes when possible.
  • Highway 127: Extensive paving, grading, widening, and bridge construction projects are underway along multiple sections—ranging from the Bledsoe County line up through Fentress County. Notably, traffic has been shifted to a new alignment from North Lowe Road in Cumberland County to Little Road in Fentress County, where intermittent lane closures remain active.
  • Highway 70 North: A complete closure of both lanes is in effect between the Crossville city limits and the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and School (Log Mile 15.06 to 15.6) for a bridge replacement project over the Obed River. This closure will remain in place for the duration of the project, with a posted detour utilizing Northside Drive (SR-462) and Sparta Highway. Another section of Highway 70 North near the Putnam County line is restricted to a single lane with temporary signals due to bridge repairs.
Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution, watch for construction equipment and personnel, and allow extra time for their commutes throughout the work zones.
