OVER 20 VEHICLES INVOLVED IN I-40 CRASH NEAR COOKEVILLE
Interstate 40 West in Putnam County near Cookeville, is shut down for an extended period due to multiple crashes involving approximately 20 to 30 vehicles.
The incidents, which began around 11:55 a.m., occurred between mile markers 280 and 285 (with the primary blockage at mile marker 285), and were attributed to hazardous road conditions, including icy bridges and overpasses. Authorities from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, and Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) reported injuries among those involved but no fatalities.
The westbound lanes and the entrance ramp at mile marker 286 are closed, with traffic being detoured at Exit 288 at TDOT’s direction.
