OVER 670 ROADS IN FAIRFIELD GLADE AND TANSI TO RECEIVE 30 MPH SPEED LIMITS

According to a report by the Crossville Chronicle, the Cumberland County Environmental Committee recommended a 30 mph speed limit for 672 roads in Fairfield Glade and Lake Tansi, which was unanimously approved for county commission consideration.
Additionally, the roads goals subcommittee, via Joe Sherrill, proposed five recommendations: a $1 million one-time fund in 2026 for highway department support, hiring seven full-time employees for pothole and mowing teams, initiating hiring in 2025, evaluating increased road recycling frequency, and maintaining the subcommittee.
He highlighted the need for four dedicated teams due to staffing shortages and suggested paving all county roads long-term or recycling roads every 7-10 years with hot-mix pothole repairs. Costs for road maintenance have risen significantly, necessitating additional funding.
A motion to advance two recommendations was retracted after Jack Davis requested direct discussion with the road superintendent. The committee also heard a brief landfill update, with issues being addressed with TDEC, and Sherrill requested a long-term plan. Two committee members were absent.
